The office of former President John Mahama has responded to statements by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress that he is being considered to take up the running mate slot ahead of the 2020 general elections.
In a statement issued by the office of the former President, it noted that such considerations haven’t come up yet and that former President Mahama, together with the senior members of the party, were still searching for the right candidate to partner the flagbearer in 2020.
A portion of the statement making rounds on social media also states that selecting and naming Mr. Aseidu Nketiah at this hour, would be equal to placing a “cart before the horse”.
“It will be foolish on my part to name Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketiah as my running mate, knowing very well that the exercise I started with some senior members of the NDC is yet to be concluded. I have presented names to the team I am working with and I won’t sidestep the progress we are making”.
In a related development, Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketiah has personally confessed of being happy and ready to pick up the running mate slot should former Predident Mahama take the decision to make him his partner in 2020.
In an interview he granted on Joy Fm which was monitored by this portal, the NDC scribe noted that “I would gladly accept the offer if it comes.”
He continued that “…[Yaw] Osafo-Marfo who also comes across as one of our best Finance Ministers is an engineer; so for people to narrowly think you have to be an expert in a particular field before you can perform…is wrong.”
