Akufo-Addo signs EI to declassify portions of Achimota Forest

Parts of the Achimota Forest will no longer be part of the forest reserve.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has signed an Executive Instrument declassifying parts of the forest reserve.

Per the document, “The District Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority with jurisdiction over the land specified in the schedule, shall, within three months after the coming into force of this instrument, prepare for the approval of the Minister [of Lands], a master plan for the development of the land specified in the schedule”.

This has created a lot of discussions on various social media platforms. Many are of the view that the Achimota Forest reserved has been sold.

However, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has debunked these reports.

Mr Jinapor has stated that the natural resouce is not for sale and it will not be sold.

But, Mr Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of of Imani Africa has posted a reaction on the issue on his facebook page. He posted “Bye Bye Achimota Forest. Sold! What is this??!”

However, Hon. Jinapor in a Facebook post reacted to these allegation, by stating “Achimota Forest is not and will NOT be sold!!!!!!!”.
